Arielle followed soon after on the 21st at noon and the two buds drove with a pile of gear (including surfboards) on the motorbike to Belangan and apparently it was quite the adventure. Arielle managed to only hit two motorbikes along the way so we are considering it a success. As for Charlie. He was on the plane from San Fran to Soeul South Korea when he realized that he was supposed to get in at midnight a day later than planned. Knowing that he would not let that happen and have to miss another day without his lover buiscuit he had the flight staff move him to the front of the plane so he could run out right away and try and catch the flight leaving Soeul to Denpasar Indonesia 30 minutes after the plane landed. After being told it was impossible to catch the flight he ran out and made it just in time to get on the flight to Denpasar on the 20th. The $100 change fee was well worth it for the first class ride. While at the villa on the beach Arielle continued to look absolutly stunning in her bikinis. Tom was checking out all the topless girls, and Charlie was very Hot (literally!!!!!!!). Now its time for bed and another day of excitement and fun.Ariellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10642663678749991570noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8191367520138999377.post-85384253309710718132009-04-12T01:56:00.000-07:002009-04-12T02:11:23.835-07:00Cameron Highlands... still in Malaysia! As I stand on the peaks of so many mountains, up in the mist and the clouds, I reflect. My mind runs through all of these incredible experiences, and I still can't believe how much beauty my young eyes have seen in the past seven months. Beauty from every aspect. I look back on every moment, and it feels so good to say that I wouldn't change any part of this trip. I am over the top satisfied about who I've met, what I've done, what I've seen, what I've felt, and the wisdom I've gained from this! I'm stoked on life! I've been hanging out here in the Highlands for a couple of days now, and I'm glad I found this place. Its peaceful and climbing up mountains using my hands to pull my body up, slipping on the red dirt, tripping over roots, and being so exhausted at the end of the day is the best form of meditation for me right now. I love it here. The air is fresh, crisp and smells like pine trees and rich dirt. The town is cute and the food is extremely cheap. I'm staying in a dorm meeting the people who come and go in 3 day time periods. I'm rarely sweaty and there are about 20 trails right out my door step. I feel healthy here. I'm going to stay here for another 6 days and then I'm off to cross the border into Thailand!! Wahoooo!Ariellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10642663678749991570noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8191367520138999377.post-22644715510650472482009-04-02T23:57:00.000-07:002009-04-03T00:27:20.775-07:00Saying goodbye to mom and Perhentian IslandsHey everyone, it looks like I need to put a new post.... so much has happened, I feel a bit overwhelmed as I sit here searching for the right words and where to begin. I guess I'll do a brief run over of my amazing trip with MOM. First off, I'd like to tell you all that I have the coolest mom on Earth! She is such a great travel buddy. As many of you know our first destination was was Sandakan, a small fisherman's town in Borneo. We soon discovered that this town was no place to vacation, we stayed long enough to see the orangutans, and the very next day we were determined to find a nice beach with crystal clear water. We got on a bus to semporna, and then a boat to Mabul Island. This Island was quite special, you had to book all your accomodation and meals ahead of time, mom and I agreed that the atmosphere reminded us of going to summer camp as a child, what a great feeling. All the houses are on stilts, and there was no lack of true Malysian culture here. We saw it all. On this island, we snorkeled all day... and thats pretty much it! The snorkeling was incredible, a few times we were taken by a speed boat to a shelf where we swam with multiple sea turtles and saw huge schools of colorful fish joining together like confetti. It was truly magical. Then we went to Kota Kinabalu, where we stayed at a place called Poring hot springs. We loved this place, hot springs, waterfalls, gardens, butterfly sanctuaries, nice places to run, and a canopy walk. We stayed in a nice little guesthouse overlooking rolling mountains covered in Jungle.. it was quite a view. I found mom stretching and watching the sun rise over the mountains just about every morning. Our last destination was Sepilok. We went on a 3 day 2 night jungle safari. Here we went on boat rides and treks to spot wildlife. We saw wild orangutans, probiscis monkeys, crocodiles, toads, flying foxes, and lots of colorful birds. It was a great experience. On the last night mom and I sang to the guitar with all the guides and drank strong rice wine. Then we caught a plane back to KL and prepared to say goodbye. We were shocked by how quickley, the future becomes the present and the present becomes the past. BAM! just like that and our time together was over. We spent the last few ours together crying and saying "Lets not talk about it." The final moment came and mom and I were hugging each other so tight wishing we never had to say bye. I woke up the next morning with swollen eyes and emptyness in the pit of my stomach. The first few days after saying goodbye are always hard, when you're walking down the street and normally the silence is filled, but then it was quiet. I was in a funk for a short while until I met up with Mathieu, a couch surfer who just about saved me from falling into a rut. He invited me to come to the Perhentian Islands with a group of couch surfers! So we got on a night bus and began the journey to a beautiful Island. I spent the last week there and as you can see in the pictures it is very nice. I am now back in KL and plan to be here until the 10th of April, then I am going back into the jungle to the Cameron Highlands, and then back to Phuket where I will spend the last month of my solo trip before I get on a plane and meet Charlie and Tom in BALI!!!! I can't wait.Ariellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10642663678749991570noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8191367520138999377.post-43437820894848937672009-03-16T06:04:00.000-07:002009-03-16T06:12:58.199-07:00Traveling with my Amazing daughter!!!!Wow, I am on a constant high, trying to figure out how to never let it end. How can I work it out so that I can do this forever. So many places yet to see, and here I am seeing Malaysia, incredible! This trip so far has been a dream, only thought of two short months ago, I still feel like I have to pinch myself to see if it is real. We have lived a lifetime in one short week. Arielle and I go until we can barely say good night at the end of the day. It is so beautiful here. My body has touched the warm ocean once again, and yearns for more. I have spent hours talking to my 18 year old daughter about anything and everything. The smells, the sounds, the sights of another culture intrigue me beyond belief, I walk in awe most places we go.
What new adventures are in store, only time will tell...Ariellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10642663678749991570noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8191367520138999377.post-79282149384406340552009-03-04T06:49:00.000-08:002009-03-04T07:02:21.912-08:00This world is full of experiences calling out my nameI am a child, and this beautiful world is my playground... I've recently discovered, or should I say uncovered after the many years of reality, this side of me that is more playful and imaginative than I ever could have wished for. Life is full of wonder and mystery.. it can be so fun if you just let go, let your mind play, be free, and see chocolate kisses as the rain drops meet the water. I've found myself dancing to the sound of my own laughter. I can make up amazing stories in my mind, and dream of places no one has ever explored. I'm so excited this child has been released. I'm on a journey of self discovery and oh man I'm discovering something far more beautiful then I thought possible. I've always had a tinge of what I'm seeing now, but its never been this vibrant and colorful. I'm learning to understand me, to recognize when I'm happy or sad. I'm dancing in the clouds, twirling around, gazing at rainbows, listening to music thats sending rhythm through my body.. I feel like I just reached the top of sugar mountain. That song is false, sugar mountain has just begun, theres no leaving when you're 20. The colored balloons are floating above me as I speak.Ariellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10642663678749991570noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8191367520138999377.post-709424482084623182009-02-28T01:42:00.000-08:002009-02-28T01:47:52.302-08:00My life is sooooo fun!I've been having a great time the last few days, Yanni and Chris aren't working as much lately so we've been spending some quality time together as a group. Another couch surfer arrived a few days ago, and she's from Oregon too! Its been nice hanging with the four of us. We've been making some pretty wild memories. I've officially fallen in love with Bali, I'm so glad that I will be coming back in just a few short months... Thanks to my amazing love! I leave Bali in 5 days for Malaysia and then meet up with my mom. Yipppi!Ariellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10642663678749991570noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8191367520138999377.post-77371488506391489512009-02-22T21:32:00.000-08:002009-02-22T21:47:45.340-08:00Bali, Lombok, and the Gili IslandsMy most recent adventures took place in Lombok and the Gili Islands, Levi, Nof and I decided to do a little trip to some of the near by islands... the first stop was Lombok, as I said in some of my comments on the photos, Lombok wasn't the most exciting place. We only spent 2 nights there and by the time we left it felt like we were running to leave. There were so many locals trying to make money off of tourism, and unfortunatly not enough tourists. For instance while we sat down for dinner there would be atleast 30 people approaching us to sell a cheap cheap necklace. It was actually quite sad. The one guy that we bought stuff from, we ended up sitting down and having a drink with. He told us about his life, and how he's just waiting to die, because he knows things will be a lot better for him then. I couldn't bare to hear someone say that. Life is special, and its sad to hear a 40 year old say that he hasn't discovered that. There lives are much harder though. Anyways, the one whole day that we spent in Lombok, we rented motorbikes and drove through those hills that I took pictures of. It was breath taking, and I mean that. My face was locked in a look of aw. We passed through a few villages too which was pretty cool. Then the next day we got on a ferry to the Gili Islands. It was very nice there too. The first day me and the boys walked around the whole island. the next day Levi and I went snorkeling for the whole day, we swam with sea turtles, saw an eel, and a SEA SNAKE, I was stoked. This little island that we were on was a hot spot for young travelers whol like to party. Unfortunatly I didn't have much energy left at the end of the day... Now I'm back in Bali, I was in transit for 14 hours yesturday! It was tedious. But I made it and I am soooooo happy to be back at my home away from home. Today I woke up put on my running shoes and went for a 2 hour run, it was great.Ariellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10642663678749991570noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8191367520138999377.post-64411023344774670502009-02-14T01:43:00.000-08:002009-02-14T01:54:21.330-08:00HAPPY VALENTIN'S DAY CHARLIE!!!!Happy Valentine's Day my love... I've been working on this project for about 2 months now, the photos were taken in three different countries; Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. These photos were inspired by my ever growing firey, passionate, true, crazy love for you. I couldn't send you anything so I thought it would be cool to show you that I am thinking about you all the time through a series of photos. I am incredibly greatful to have you in my life, thanks for being so supportive of me and giving me all the love and happiness in the world. You're the sweetest man to me. I love you soooooo much! I can't wait to see you again and have that warm feeling of being in your presence. I love you with every fiber of my being Charlie!Ariellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10642663678749991570noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8191367520138999377.post-83484164919021009022009-02-12T17:50:00.000-08:002009-02-12T18:03:04.400-08:00BaliI've been having so much fun lately, surfing, exploring the rice patties, and playing playing playing. I don't have much time, but I will write a special post for Valentine's Day...Ariellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10642663678749991570noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8191367520138999377.post-61516979190681795082009-02-07T03:54:00.000-08:002009-02-07T04:10:22.212-08:00BALI (the greatest place on earth) hahaWow! Bali is incredible, its what everyone imagines in there mind when they think of dream land paradise. This place has it all. When I first arrived, Yanni was so nice and picked me up at the airport. When we made it to his house and I saw the place I was in complete shock from how big and beautiful it was. Couch surfing is proving to be pretty awesome. Every experience is different and great in its own way. My first day here I didn't have a motor scooter yet so I just went for an exploration run in the morning and took it easy lounging around the pool in the afternoon. On my run I found these stairs that were over grown by jungle plants, when I went down them and made it to the bottom I was stunned by this amazing little beach. It was so beautiful that my whole body was immediatly covered in goose bumps, I was laughing and my eyes were watering.. It was euphoric. I've been thinking about my pops a lot lately and its so cool to be retracing his foot steps. He's such a cool dad, I love you PAPA!!
Today, I met this sweet german girl named Lilly, she's staying with Yanni too, we really hit it off, I'm stoked to be hanging with a girl. Tomorrow we are going to this beach to surf together. I'm looking forward to that. The snorkeling here looks good too. There is nothing bad to say about Bali. I've almost crashed on my motor scooter a few times because I am so drawn to the scenery around me. Oh man do I love my life right now.Ariellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10642663678749991570noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8191367520138999377.post-34845597664345463092009-02-01T04:57:00.000-08:002009-02-01T05:02:35.650-08:00Langkawi MalaysiaWhen I first arrived I was having a bit of a hard time, but now I've found a really great place to stay in the Rainbow Lodge and fun people to be around. The past few days have been fairly mellow, I've just been doing some exploring around the island, settling myself, and spending time on the beach. The Malay people are friendly and can speak english well, so its nice being able to fully communicate again. I'm really excited right now because on the 5th I'm going to Bali to surf surf surf! I can't wait to finally get some good action. Wahooooooo!Ariellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10642663678749991570noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8191367520138999377.post-30207327401419545912009-01-25T18:39:00.000-08:002009-01-25T19:27:02.830-08:00Tomorrow I will be on a long bus ride to MalaysiaToday is my last day in Phuket Thailand and I am feeling a little sad about it. This place has so many great memories. I woke up went for my last run in Rawaii, and now I am saying goodbye to all my friends. Its really hard to be meeting people and saying goodbye all the time. I have such a good thing going here and its hard to be leaving it all behind. I do look forward to seeing a new place and meeting more travel buddies. Another journey begins...Ariellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10642663678749991570noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8191367520138999377.post-10842748695377448232009-01-19T00:17:00.000-08:002009-01-19T00:28:47.232-08:00Laughter Laughter and more LaughterThe past few days have been amazing, its been too good to explain. I have been feeling something that can only be felt when you have fallen off the face of the planet. I am in a timeless zone. Something has seriously changed in the last few days. I can't quite tell what it is, but its incredible. I have truly let go. I wish that everyone could feel this, because its the most empowering, free, happy feeling ever. It is pure bliss. I am so content with who I am and what I'm doing. If only I could share it, this world might be a better place. I've never had something like this happen to me. I am so greatful that my mind has given me the ability to experience this. It is unexplainable. For the first time I am all I need, where ever I am, thats where my home is. I have me and so many great people to meet. Ok I realize I'm sounding like a crazy person, but its out of this world. I'm so frustrated that I can't communicate with all of you what its like. I am filled with joy, its like my blood is pumping with bliss.Ariellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10642663678749991570noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8191367520138999377.post-5902928565020463222009-01-13T03:21:00.000-08:002009-01-13T03:39:20.942-08:00Today was amazing!Today, I thought was just going to be a typical day at the beach, playing in the water, basking in the sun, meeting people, eating papaya etc. But not today, I met all these really active people who brought a soccer ball, a volley ball and a frisbee! We had so much fun! First we played volley ball, then came my favorite, SOCCER and I just kicked all those boys butts. haha. They didn't know what to do with themselves, I was just pushing them around. When I first said I was going to play, they said to me "You can just stand there and look cute.." and then when they saw that I could hold my own they were like "dude she's good" Oh sweet victory. I thought about you mom and I knew you'd be proud that I was the only girl playing and scoring all the goals. It was hilarious. Then we played frisbee in the water. My time on Nai Harn beach has forever changed.. I'm going to play soccer on the beach every day from now on, I was just laughing and loving every second. I'm stoked! I feel alive. I think Phuket just got a lot more interesting now that I found all these great people to be with. Last night was quite fun as well, Stefanies other couch surfer showed up and we had a delicous pork and potato dumplings with gravy and a few too many glasses of wine. I've never been typsy off of wine before, we were just cracking up and chatting and eating until we burst. I'm putting some funny photos of it. I sure am feeling good.Ariellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10642663678749991570noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8191367520138999377.post-26157666158688745432009-01-07T23:32:00.001-08:002009-01-07T23:54:59.046-08:00Being a beach bumFor the past few days, I've been hanging out on the beach all day, eating tropical fruits and meeting people. I start my day with a long run, and a bike ride, with a bike that hardly fits me and seems as though a wheel is going to fall off every time I catch the slightest bit of speed. I have to say it keeps me amused. I'll be going down the high way, cars whizzing by and I'm just cracking up because my tire is swirving all over the place and the Thais are looking at me like "Just another crazy tourist" ha ha. But it gets me around and the way Stefanie cooks for me I might be in trouble if I wasn't getting in a little extra exercise. Last night we had breaded fried fish with potatoe salad, and I kept trying to stop eating but she would say "come on you're growing have another peice of fish" By the end of the night I was laying on the floor in pain doing stomach stretches to try and digest all the food! I'm not playing games here.
A few nights ago I met up with some friends, we went out to dinner and then did some shopping at the night market... later on we decided to go skinny dipping. It felt good to be swimming at night, I am so free! Today I've just been having a day to myself. I went for a nice hike, and and when I got to a peaceful spot, I would sit and enjoy being with me. I'm really beggining to feel ok with being alone, actually I think I'm starting to take a likeing to it. I love to just be, and listen to my thoughts and work on quieting them. Its a job on its own, but I find it to be relaxing and I always feel much happier after some quality time in a secluded spot perched in front of the massive ocean. Today, started out a little bit rough, and by the time I was climbing all these huge hills on my little mountain bike in the blazing sun, I couldn't help but smile. Life is good.Ariellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10642663678749991570noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8191367520138999377.post-46398766541649648212009-01-02T18:19:00.000-08:002009-01-02T18:31:55.809-08:00My Solo Journey begins againSaying goodbye to sis was really hard... it's strange to anticipate something for so long and then have it be over before you know it. Our time together was well spent, it's the first time me and her were able to bond and connect on an adult level. I learned a lot from her, she is such a good person. The morning I sent her off, I watched the taxi drive away and I had tears rolling down my cheeks. I don't mean to sound so dramatic, but the feeling was empty. I no longer had some one to laugh with, to adventure with, to be scared with, to appriciate and be amazed with, to talk about Charlie with, to bicker with, ha ha, to have good conversation with... all the joys of having constant company were kissed goodbye. Luckily, I am couch surfing now, and it is wonderful! It's so nice to feel welcome in a real home! My room is beautiful, I am located in a quite neighborhood, and the woman I am staying with is really cool. We can talk for days. She has a lot of wisdom. I'm so stoked on life. I'm proud to be making my way in this world, I am strong. This trip is exciting and I can't wait to see what comes next.Ariellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10642663678749991570noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8191367520138999377.post-56626141528820201692009-01-01T00:02:00.000-08:002009-01-01T00:11:52.878-08:00Happy New Year!!!Sis and I had a great New Years Eve! First, we went out to a fancy pizza place for dinner, drinks and desserts... because we were looking so cute in our white and black dresses the waiter kept bringing us free shots and gin and tonics! Then we met up with some Thai boxers, we all loaded in the back of a pick up truck and went to Patong Beach. When we arrived, there were fire works in the sky and little hot air balloons lighting up like stars. There were people partying every where! Once we were into the new year, the dancing begun. The night was magical and quite reflective. There has been so much change in my life, I can't wait to see what the new year will bring.Ariellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10642663678749991570noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8191367520138999377.post-3138373301496131632008-12-30T19:15:00.000-08:002008-12-30T19:27:19.592-08:00Our Recent AdventuresAfter we left Koh Tao for the second time... we went to Railay Beach! We spent our day at Railay relaxing and people watching on the beach. It's amazing how much more crowded everything is in the high season. Sis and I decided to spend our last week together in Rawaii, Phuket. We were well done with all the waiting around and sitting on buses and boats. We have been fairly mellow lately just enjoying all the beauty of this little town. A few days ago we discovered this amazing beach that is nice and secluded. We went down this dirt path that is tucked away in banana trees palm trees and lots of other tropical plants. When our little motorbike couldn't go any further we parked it and hiked the rest of the way down to the beach. At the end of the hot hike we were rewarded with crystal clear water and very few people to share it with. I floated on my back in the water for a very long time. It was as peaceful as peace can be. The birds were singing the palm trees swaying and the ocean inviting. After sis leaves on the 2nd I plan to couch surf for the next month in Thailand and then get on a bus and begin my journey in Malaysia! Wahooooo! New Years party tonight.... Sis and I are going to dance like crazy!Ariellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10642663678749991570noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8191367520138999377.post-32552164475686254362008-12-18T02:35:00.000-08:002008-12-18T02:40:53.107-08:00Back in Koh Tao..After a full day of boat and bus rides yesturday, sis and I were about to continue our journey to Bangkok when she realized she left her passport, drivers license and credit card in our hotel in Koh Tao... So we turned around. Spent the whole day today, starved on a boat and sea sick. But now we have food and our insides are no longer being sloshed around by the ocean lul'. Plans for Bangkok have thankfully been cancelled and Island hopping has continued. I went for a few dives a couple days ago, got sea sick, and the visibility wasn't great. That's ok, still having fun. I'm going to go search for a burrito. I posted some more pictures.Ariellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10642663678749991570noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8191367520138999377.post-42724710930943248122008-12-15T01:30:00.000-08:002008-12-15T01:57:28.893-08:00Two sisters on the loose in ThailandThailand is HOT! Not only are the massages cheap and amazing, they also come with a happy ending... our last massage therapist massaged our voluptuous breasts thoroughly, told us we were sexy and flashed us her saggy titties, as a possible invitation? Later on a HOT night out on the town a monkey jumped right into Arielle's arms... Sam screamed and backed away with true fright and worry. We spent the night swing dancing and fending off the cute boys... sometimes, some were too cute to resist. ha ha. Arielle was extra HOT dancing on stage with Thai girls and a few "Lady Boys" (They're everywhere!) In order to keep lookin' HOT we have to do some shopping which involves a lot of haggling over 50 cents. Arielle wouldn't be caught dead paying even 25 cents too much, she's a champion bargainer. I guess that's what 3 mos. in SE Asia will do to you. Every penny counts. Literally. Even when we don't want to shop we are constantly bombarded with the sound of "Saa-wa-dee-Kaaaaaaa, and massaaaaaaaage, you buy something, very good price for you." The pleading twang of solicitation rings in our ears. The HOTest place Sam and Arielle have been together is Koh Tao! There are HOT people everywhere, beach bungalows, bars on the beach, real western food, crystal clear water, familiar music such as Jack Johnson and Bob Marley, tons of snorkel and dive shops, Kayaks, and people from all over the world! This scene is happenin'! "Arielle and Sam have found a little slice of heaven. However, even in heaven these two are not immune to a heated bicker session, but as we all know one HOT fight can lead to to one great laughing session. We find that although traveling is not all fun and games, making it through each new challenge makes our relationship stronger and our laughter louder. OUr most recent taste of heaven on Koh Tao was our all day snorkel trip. As soon as we splashed into open water and looked below us... We spotted a five foot shark. We both screamed and pointed with wide eyes! "Arielle thought sis would be freaked, but Sam was as calm as a cucumber and brimming with excitement!" The snorkel trip was so HOT! that we are inspired to go one step closer to the beautiful reef and it's creatures. DIVING! Yippideedooo!!!Ariellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10642663678749991570noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8191367520138999377.post-19710081265764332012008-12-09T19:53:00.000-08:002008-12-09T20:01:40.779-08:00Ko Samui with SisSis and I spent our last few days in Phuket doing some more runs, hiking out to the cape, snorkelling a bit, and racing around on the little motor bike that she claims as one of her favorite parts of the trip so far. ha ha. and of course lying on the beaches soaking up the sun. Then we got on a bus to Ko Samui and got here 2 nights ago. We've been hanging out with some english bloaks, they are pretty funny. Last night we went out and had a hillarious fun night out on the town. Lots of dancing and laughing. Oh and on the bus sis kept making me laugh til' I cried and all the Thai people would just look back at me concerned that I may not be able to breath. We have some good laughs together. After Ko Samui I think we're going to go a little farther north to Ko Tao and hopefully do some diving together... maybe sis will just be up for snorkelling, but we will see. I'm loving the life on the road... Sis is realizing she appriciates the U.S. she can't get over how disgusting the bathrooms are. Oh sis. I posted some pics of our fun, enjoy!Ariellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10642663678749991570noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8191367520138999377.post-48019606475802004062008-12-05T05:41:00.000-08:002008-12-05T05:46:28.760-08:00More Pictures!!Sis and I have been having a wonderful time together... not much time to write now, but we will tell more about our adventures later. I only have pictures of Angkor Wat because by the time I made it to Angkor Thom the camera had completely died. Luckily my sister comes in 2 days and she has a new camera for me... so I will start taking a lot more pictures of better quality.Ariellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10642663678749991570noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8191367520138999377.post-42639824989907407372008-11-30T16:57:00.000-08:002008-11-30T17:15:35.761-08:00Back in BANGKOKI am back in Beautiful Thailand and it feels good... The last time I wrote was all the way in Northern Vietnam! Wow! So from Ha Noi, I made my way down south, I haven't been writting much about it because most of Vietnam was raining cats and dogs and flooding. I was cooped up inside quite a bit. I saw some of the beaches in Vietnam, they were really dirty and the water was cold and brown it really made me appriciate southern Thailand. Even though Vietnam had bad weather, there was something about it that I really liked... I know I'll be back some day. So for the past few weeks I've been doing a lot of sight seeing. In Ho Chi Minh, I went to a war museum that pretty much makes anyone who sees it hate americans. It was interesting for me to see. I feel like I've learned so much about all this stuff, but until you put me in a museum in Vietnam where it actually happened I have a hard time engaging myself. I also went to the Couchi Tunnels where the Viet Cong army would hide to attack the americans. It was very eye opening, I made an attempt to crawl in the tunnels that they actually used but I got really scared. I felt like I couldn't breath and I was about to pass out. So I turned right around and escaped. The tunnels smelled like death. After that I crossed the border into Cambodia, and of course went and saw the famous ruins of Angkor wat and Angkor Thom. My friend Pat and I rented bikes and went around to see the temples that way.. it was nice, I felt like a local because that's how they all get around. After seeing Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom I was completely templed out. They were very beautiful, but I was almost more entertained by all the tourist watching, they just crack me up. I spent the next day wondering around Siem Reap, buying some christmas presents for my little sister. I love her, I want to see her and give her big hugs and kisses. I'm having so much fun here, and I can't wait until my sis gets here we are going to have a blast! Yayaaaa.... I love my life.Ariellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10642663678749991570noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8191367520138999377.post-35011640660840569222008-11-19T04:00:00.000-08:002008-11-19T04:30:00.499-08:00Sa Pa and my last night in Ha NoiMy time spent in Sa Pa was awesome! We were lucky enough to have blue sky for the entire trek. The trek was only two days and one night, we stayed in a village for the one night. It was quite an experience... The family that we stayed with was welcoming. After a long day of hiking through the rice patties we made it to the village. We got to make dinner with the family and then join them to eat. The family had 4 generations all living in the same house! As soon as we sat down to eat our elaborate meal, our guide started giving everyone at the table including the great grandma shots of rice wine. He kept pouring shot after shot and ofcourse you can't say no. By the end of the dinner all of us had about 10 shots of rice wine. I made it through the night ok. I ate so much food that it absorbed all the alcohol. It felt really good to connect with the vietnamese people with out having any scams or money involved. The next day we woke up to roosters crowing and delicous banana pancakes! After we got back from the trek we took a night train back to Ha Noi. Our last night in Ha Noi before going to Ninh Binh the group that I was with decided to really blend in with the locals and go to a restaraunt that only serves snake. When we sat down to order, they brought the live snake to the table and killed it right in front of us. The slit open the heart as the snake was still moving. The drained the blood into shot glasses with rice wine for us (not me) to drink. Then they put the heart in a cup as it was beating still. My friends drank the blood and one of them ate the heart. eeewww. They quikley grilled the snake and served us. I felt so sick. It's the same feeling I get when I'm walking through a meet market and I see bloody dog heads on a table and the body of the dog gutted ready to be sold for dinner.Ariellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10642663678749991570noreply@blogger.com5
